Family Promise – Assisting families transitioning from homelessness to sustainable living arrangements. Family Promise is a unique approach that works intensively with a small group of homeless families, assisting them to find homes. Since 2007, over 80% of families in the program have found sustainable homes within three months of entering the program! During the time the families are in the program, they are housed for a week at a time in a church. Over 50 churches in Honolulu participate in this program. St. Andrew’s assists First Christian Church (Makiki) by providing dinners for the families four times each year. Help us prepare a meal for the families at least once a year!
In 2016 St. Andrew’s added a “Shallow Subsidy” program, providing a one-time stipend of $3,000-3,600 to assist a family that is moving from the Family Promise program into housing. The subsidy, which is administered by Family Promise, may take the form of monthly payments of $300 in the first year or be applied to first/last/security deposits. Here is the first family that benefitted from this program.
