Message from Fr. Moki, June 12, 2019

Dear Cathedral Ohana:

It is nice to be back in the office today after two days off on Hawaii Island where I got to spend time with my family. I especially enjoyed the drive from Hilo to Honoka’a on Monday morning and marveled not only at the beautiful weather, but also the dramatic cliff lines and spectacular ravines with their full and flowing waterfalls.

I also made a special trek to Haina, the landing where my great-grandparents came ashore in 1899 from Yamaguchi, Japan. They were actually scooped up in nets from dories by a crane on shore and plopped unceremoniously onto the land that would become their home for the rest of their lives. They worked hard, raised and family, and eventually became US citizens out of gratitude for all that Hawaii gave them. In turn, I am grateful to them for all they did to give me the life I live today. I am very blessed.

Discernment of Spiritual Gifts
I do hope you will join us this evening for our session on the discernment of spiritual gifts. My plan is to look at the hopes and dreams you came up with at our listening sessions last year, discern your gifts for ministry, and then apply them to the needs of the Cathedral’s ministry. It’s sure to be an interesting evening.

At the last meeting of the Cathedral Chapter we approved financials from April and a Treasurer’s report for May. I will include them here for your review and ready reference.

Priory Graduation
On Sunday afternoon the Priory held their graduation in the Cathedral. I was not able to attend as I had already made plans to be with my grandmother that afternoon. This group of students is the group that were my fourth graders and I’m proud of their accomplishments and look forward to seeing how they live into their dreams.

Thank you again to all who signed up to help with the reception for the ordination on June 22. I look forward to the day and to taking part in what is sure to be a very special service.

I close this for week with warm thoughts. I look forward to seeing you all tonight and at worship this weekend. Please take care until then.
