The Lenten Season begins with Ash Wednesday, February 26 and continues until Easter Sunday, April 12. Here are some of the events planned for this most important season of the Christian year, starting with three services for the imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday and continuing with five Sunday film/discussion sessions and three Wednesday evening Lenten supper/discussion sessions.
Services will be held at 7:00 am, 11:30 am, and 5:30 pm. The 5:30 service will include the Cathedral Choir and organ. The Rev. Keleawe Hee will officiate at all three services.
Signs of Life
For the five Sundays in Lent during March, the Formation Committee is offering the Signs of Life Program developed jointly by the Society of Saint John the Evangelist and Virginia Theological Seminary. Each Sunday we’ll meet in the Manger from 9:15 to 10:10. We will watch and listen to a 15-minute video and then discuss how the Sign of Life featured that day has impacted and may continue impacting our faith journey. There will be suggestions for the coming week in which we can be especially attentive to that sign.
SSJE and VTS have produced a Lenten calendar showing ways to implement those suggestions and to structure our Lenten disciplines, including the seven practices in the Way of Love. We will provide you with a copy of the complete Signs of Life Calendar in your bulletin on February 23. You may download your own copy from this page.
