Kalihi Waena School meat give-away 2018

Each year, the Outreach Committee gives a ton of meat to the families of Kalihi Waena Elementary, which is the school in a low income neighborhood that the Cathedral helps with our school supplies campaign each July. By giving away bags of high quality meat each December, the families have extra food available enabling them to enjoy holiday celebrations. The meat-give away occurs at the end of the Kalihi Waena Breakfast with Santa and Science Fair. We get to see the darling Kalihi Waena cheerleaders perform, browse the science exhibits, and pack Cathedral shopping bags with packs of meat. At the conclusion of the event, each family in attendance gets a bag containing a 5-lb box of chicken legs as well as packages of bologna or other meat donated by our supplier, P&E Foods of Honolulu.

Cafeteria Manager, Chris Egami helped with delivery and on that morning as did his assistant, Dukie. Here are some photos of the event (by Ann Hansen and Elizabeth Conklin), as well as the packaging and presentation of the food.

Ruth (in the green vest) helped with coordination and also with packaging. Bella Willing (usually the music teacher but pressed into service as the VP for the last couple months) wore a purple polo shirt and is helping pack in every photo. Maria Passi was in the black tee that read “Aloha” in several photos. Staff members were so good about pitching in!
