November’s Evensong features the Cathedral Choir and Orvis Music Scholars, under the direction of Leohone Magno and John Alexander.

Music selections include:
Organ Prelude: “Pastorale” H. H. Bancroft
Choral Introit: “It Is Toward Evening” John McCreary
Abide with us; it is toward evening and the day is far spent, Abide.
Processional Hymn: O gracious light (Hymnal #24)
Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis: Setting by Thomas Causton
Choir Anthem: O Lord, Support Us all the Day Long, by John McCreary – words from The Book of Common Prayer:
O Lord, support us all the day long, until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed and the fever of life is over and our work is done. Then in Thy mercy grant us a safe lodging and a holy rest, and peace at the last.
Retiring Processional: Most Holy God (Hymnal #31)
Organ Postlude: “Litanies” Jehan Alain
English translation of composer’s notes: “When the distressed Christian soul no longer finds new words for imploring the mercy of God, it repeats without ceasing the same invocation with a vehement faith. The reason reaches its limit: the faith alone pursues the ascension.”
