Fr. Moki Hino announced today that we have been authorized to go back into the Cathedral for in-person worship on Sunday, May 31. We will also have our 5:30 PM service on Saturday, May 30.
There will be no in-person worship on Saturday, May 23 nor on Sunday, May 24. Please join us for virtual worship on Sunday at 10:00 AM. Virtual Morning Prayer will continue daily from May 25 through May 29. After that, we may go to a modified schedule.
Please understand that we will have to honor social distancing norms and everyone will have to sit 6 feet apart, unless you are a family unit that lives together. We will also have to wear masks.
For the first two Sundays that we are back in the Cathedral, we will offer the Liturgy of the Word without Holy Communion. We need time to figure out what Holy Communion will look like. Stay tuned for further announcements!
As for now, there are also prohibitions on congregational and choral singing, but we can have soloists and instrumental music. Fr. Moki and Leohone are working together to make sure that we have spiritual and life-giving musical offerings going forward.
We are also going to have to limit the number of liturgical participants, and so we will have only one reader for each service. That person will also be the intercessor. There is a concern about droplets falling on the microphone and being passed to other people.
In addition, guidelines from the Diocese of Hawai‘i ask that people who are in the high risk category continue to stay home. Please rest assured, however, that we are going to continue to live stream services for those who are unable to attend in person.
Finally, please remember that the Sunday 10:30 AM service will be moved to 10:00 AM; so, the worship schedule will be:
- 5:30 PM Saturday
- 7:00 AM Sunday (Rite I)
- 8:00 AM Sunday (Hawaiian)
- 10:00 AM Sunday (Rite II)
The 11:30 AM Wednesday service will continue in abeyance for the time being.
Further announcements will be made as our plans evolve. We hope to see most of you soon!
